Radio interview with Mike Lingo, Chief Technology Officer (Part 2)

Posted by astadia on February 18th, 2011

So, I was a guest on a call-in radio show last week, and if you think about that it’s very instructive about how the Cloud works.

At the appointed hour, I dialed-in on my smart phone from my office in Florida, and was not only connected with the talk radio station in Houston I was connected to listeners whether they were listening to the show on car radios, in homes or offices, or over an internet connection. Almost anyone on this planet who wanted to could hear me talk about the Cloud.

Think about that for a minute. The entire infrastructure supporting my 10 minutes of fame on local talk radio in Texas was designed and built for by someone else! The talk show host, guests, listeners – none of us did anything significant to be linked together by the broadcast towers, satellites in space, the relays and nodes, the signal monitoring equipment or the live feed on the website. The only cost to participate in the show today was our time!

And that’s just a story about radio, the thing that happened back in the dark ages, before there were innovations like television and home delivery of pizza. The radio story is simply the Cloud story.

Rather than owning, maintaining and monitoring massive amounts of computing power on-premise at our businesses, companies like Salesforce.com, Amazon and Google have done that for us. Instead of solutions based on server farms, data centers and back office staff, solutions are hosted. That allows you and I to access applications and computing capacity from just about anywhere, on any device, in real-time, to run our businesses and the business processes that keep us profitable and competitive.

Stay tuned.

Sales-Marketing alignment: Warning Signs (part 2)

Posted by astadia on September 24th, 2010

When sales and marketing work together, 1 + 1 = 3.  When they don’t,  1 + 1 = 0.5.

In this episode of the Astadia Cloud Computing Forum podcast:

Two top executives offer their candid analysis of sales-marketing misalignment. Some tension is normal. When does it deserve the attention of senior leaders?

Sales-Marketing Misalignment threatens the success of both teams.

Tension between sales and marketing teams has never been more prevalent. Perhaps it takes a global economic recession to show how frequently these teams function at odds with each other.

What actions can be taken to end the finger-pointing and gain clear accountability and shared commitment to the company’s goals?

Our Panelists for the Sales-Marketing Alignment podcast series:

  • Blake Wolff, Founder and Executive Vice President Business Development, Astadia
  • Kim Orumchian, Founder and Senior Vice President Products, Right90

No more Spreadsheets: Improve sales efficiency by eliminating data silos

Posted by astadia on August 17th, 2010

What parts of your business run on spreadsheets?

 Sales compensation  Sales forecasting  Account planning  Customer and prospect lists  Customer service metrics reporting  Marketing campaigns and reporting  Many other tasks and processes

Companies in many industries report 20% direct cost improvement simply from gaining process visibility and having data all in one manageable place. Using good data to manage teams can have that kind of impact.

In this podcast, our panelists discuss data silos and trends in how to fix them. Their primary case study is sales compensation, and the examples are relevant to many other functional areas and business processes.

Jeff Dill, Astadia Employee Performance Practice Leader

IT buyers around the world have a lot of questions about securing data and applications in the Cloud.

Is your data really appropriate for the Cloud? Differences in government regulations from country to country and industry to industry may have a role in your security plan, too.

What security concerns are inherent in the different Cloud models and platforms? What can be done to mitigate them? How is security in the Cloud particularly different from on premise security concerns?

Join our expert panelists from Ovum/Datamonitor, F5 Networks, and Astadia as they wrestle with these questions and more on this edition of the Astadia Cloud Computing Forum podcast.
